Baptism is the sacramental rite, instituted by Jesus Christ, by which a man receives the Holy Spirit, is regenerated in his soul, and is washed from his sins. It is the spiritual circumcision of the New Testament. Christians are baptized, “in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit” (Matthew 28:19).
